In these musical toys a clockwork made of springs slowly turns a cylinder (or disk), which has jagging spikes. At the appropriate time for the needed note protruding spikes fitted in different places hit the appropriate bar on the cylinder, thus playing the tune which has been programmed on the cylinder.
